Backend Engineer (Member of Technical Staff)

Full-time | On-site | San Francisco, California

$200K – $325K + Equity

About the Role

We’re seeking a Backend Engineer with 5+ years of experience who thrives on building impactful systems from the ground up. This person will own core infrastructure powering machine learning capabilities and play a key role in driving architectural decisions for high-scale, data-intensive applications.

What You’ll Do

  • Design and build the systems that deploy and manage ML models in both training and production environments
  • Lead architectural decisions for backend services enabling fast iteration on user-facing experiences
  • Build integrations between inference systems, monitoring, data pipelines, and application layers
  • Extract structured data from complex documents and optimize for quality, reliability, and scalability
  • Develop backend layers that support core business logic and integrate with third-party APIs
  • Contribute to CI/CD workflows that accelerate delivery and improve developer productivity
  • Collaborate with domain experts and internal users to identify key requirements

What We’re Looking For

  • 5+ years of backend engineering experience, ideally with Python as a core language
  • Background in building scalable distributed systems or data-heavy products
  • Strong understanding of system design, data modeling, and API architecture
  • Proven ability to make pragmatic technical decisions in fast-moving environments

Compensation & Work Setup

  • Salary: $200K – $325K base + stock options
  • Location: On-site in Union Square, San Francisco (5 days in office)
  • Visa sponsorship available

Interview Process

  1. 30-minute intro call with the recruiting team
  2. 45-minute technical screen with an engineering leader
  3. 90-minute pair coding session
  4. Optional 30-minute conversation with CEO
  5. Final onsite interview (5–6 hours)
